Home " What is the best hair transplant technique: FUT FUE DHI?
Considered to be the last solution for baldness, hair transplantation is a surgical procedure for both men and women. It is performed all over the world, and has enjoyed unprecedented popularity in recent years. From the biggest stars to the average person, many people are using this procedure to combat hair loss. As well as re-densifying the hair, it allows the hairline to be modified. The result is 100 % natural.
Discover this Focus on the different hair implant techniques, their strengths and weaknesses.
The different hair transplant techniques
There are currently several types of hair implant graft available to restore hair density after hair loss (see our article on hair loss). here ).
FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation)
This is one of the first techniques used for hair transplants. To perform it, the experts cut out a strip of scalp at the nape of the neck. In this area, the hair is denser and more permanent, i.e. it does not fall out. After removal, the strip is divided into groups of up to four hairs. These are then re-implanted one by one into the bald area.
Disadvantages of FUT
FUT leaves a linear scar where the scalp strip was removed. This scar can be hidden by the surrounding hair, but it may be visible if you wear your hair very short.
The recovery period is also longer than for other techniques because of the healing time for the scar.
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and FUE Saphir
A more recent procedure, FUE is suitable for most bald areas. During the operation, the surgeon removes hair implants from the back of the patient's scalp and re-implants them in areas where there is no hair left. The specialist uses a small surgical drill measuring less than a millimetre in diameter for the extraction (a micro-punch). Using a fine blade, the surgeon makes small incisions in the areas to be grafted, where the grafts will be placed.
La Sapphire FUE is a variant of classic FUE, with sapphire blades used to make finer, closer incisions. The technique is even more precise, with much denser hair transplant results!
Advantages of FUE
Unlike FUT, FUE does not leave a linear scar in the donor and recipient areas after healing.
The recovery period is shorter than with FUT. And recovery from Sapphire FUE is faster than FUE.
Direct Hair Implantation (DHI)
The DHI Turkey technique is a more advanced form of FUE. The entire procedure is carried out manually: removal of the follicles and implantation of the grafts. As with FUE and Sapphire FUE, the hair grafts are harvested using a Micropunch. The grafts are then placed in a DHI hair injector, which takes the form of a pen called a CHOI pen. This allows the grafts to be implanted directly into the balding areas. The specialist controls the depth, direction and angle of the implantation by following clearly defined steps. Without making any incisions, he performs this operation on the recipient area. In addition to a natural, dense result, no scars are left.
Advantages of HID
HLD offers greater precision when implanting grafts, which can lead to more natural results.
It does not require the creation of small prior incisions to implant the grafts, thus reducing bleeding, post-operative bruising and recovery time.
IFA (Automated Follicular Implantation)
The IFA method is a different technique from FUT, FUE and DHI. Hair follicles are extracted using a machine. A robot performs all the technical gestures to extract the follicular units from the patient's head. The grafts are invasively implanted into the hairless area through incisions similar to those used for FUE and FUT.
Disadvantages of IFA
- High cost: IFA requires specialised equipment and machinery, which can lead to higher costs than manual techniques.
- Technological dependence: As the IFA relies on machines and robots, there may be a technological dependence to carry out the procedure. If equipment breaks down or malfunctions, this can lead to delays or complications.
- Not yet perfected. A large number of hair transplant specialists believe that a manual procedure is much better in terms of control over the harvesting and implantation of grafts, and that the results of IFA are still too uncertain.
There are several types of hair loss. These vary according to their cause.
Comparison of hair implant techniques
Now that we've looked at the main hair transplant techniques, it's time to compare them to help you make an informed decision.
Comparison criteria :
Results : Which technique offers the most natural results and the best hair density?
Healing : Which technique leaves the least visible scars?
Recovery time : Which technique offers a shorter recovery period?
Number of grafts : What technique can be used to harvest a large number of grafts?
Shaving : Is shaving compulsory?
Comparison of techniques :
| Criteria | FUT | FUE /FUE sapphire | DHI method | IFA |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Results | Good | Excellent | Excellent | Random |
| Healing | Linear scar on the donor area | No scars | No scars | No scars |
| Recovery time | Long | Medium | Short | Medium |
| Number of grafts | Variable | Large number | Variable / Large number | Low |
| Shaving | Mandatory | Mandatory | Available atwithout shaving | Mandatory |
It is important to note that these criteria may vary according to the specificities of each individual case. It is imperative that you consult a qualified hair surgeon to assess which transplant technique is right for you. Most hair transplant clinics in Turkey offer you a personalised diagnosis, such as Klineva for example.

The main points are as follows:
- If you are prepared to accept a linear scar, FUT may be an option to consider, although this method is virtually no longer used in Turkey.
- If you prefer to avoid a linear scar and cover large areas, FUE and in particular the Sapphire FUE are good alternatives.
- If you want a fast recovery and a no-shave graftingthe DHI method is the best optic.
It is crucial to choose an experienced and qualified surgeon, whatever technique you choose. Be sure to consult several specialists, check their backgrounds, ask to see photos of previous results and ask any questions you may have before making your decision.

How long does the hair transplant procedure take in Turkey?
The length of the procedure depends on the number of grafts to be transplanted and the technique used. In general, it can take several hours, between 6 and 8 hours, for sapphire FUE and DHI.
How long does it take to see the final results of a hair transplant?
The final results of the hair transplant are not immediately visible. After the procedure, the transplanted hair will fall out in the following weeks, and then new hair will begin to grow from the transplanted follicles. Is the hair transplant permanent?
Yes, hair transplants are considered a permanent solution to hair loss because the transplanted hair follicles are genetically resistant to hair loss. However, it is important to note that natural hair loss may continue on other parts of the head if the baldness is not stabilised before the operation. This may necessitate an additional operation.
