Hair transplant: prices in Belgium or Turkey? The comparison

By Klineva · Updated on 5 October 2026 · 15 min read

You live in Brussels or Wallonia, and you are weighing a hair transplant close to home against a trip to Istanbul. For the same number of grafts (3,000), only two Belgian clinics display enough information to work out a price (recorded in October 2026). The first comes to €4,477 at most, under a promotional package that the clinic’s website says is ending. The second comes to €12,000 (€4 per graft), with VAT not specified. In Istanbul, three clinics display packages from €2,390 to €3,990. The gap ranges from a few hundred euros to more than €9,000, before the flight.

As a general rule, neither compulsory health insurance (INAMI) nor the hospitalisation insurance of the health insurance funds (mutuelles) reimburses a hair transplant for cosmetic purposes. The direct flight takes about 3 h 30 min, and Belgian citizens do not need a visa for a short stay. Here are the figures, the flights, the formalities and how to compare two quotes without making a mistake.

How much does a hair transplant cost in Belgium?

For 3,000 grafts, in October 2026 we were able to calculate two Belgian prices from advertised rates. They are €4,477 at most for one and €12,000 for the other. Clinics do not present their prices in the same way: per graft, as a package, or “from” an amount without saying for how many grafts.

We read the websites of fourteen Belgian clinics, in Brussels, Wallonia and Flanders. Eight display a price or a price range, and six display no up-to-date price. Only two make it possible to calculate the cost of 3,000 or 4,000 grafts.

“From €4,800”, a maximum of 3,000 grafts per sessionfrom €4,800two sessions, price not specified

Recorded in October 2026 from the websites of three Belgian clinics. Package: €3,700 × 1.21 (21% VAT) = €4,477, a maximum according to the clinic; with the former price of €4,900, the total would be €5,929. The website shows a countdown indicating that the promotion has ended: ask for the current price. VAT is not specified on the other two websites.

What the other websites say

  • Two price grids that stop early. For 1,500 grafts, one shows €5,620 and the other €6,000, including VAT; the first goes up to €6,775 for a package of up to 2,000 grafts.
  • Two prices with no number of grafts. From €4,595 including VAT for one, €4,000 to €4,500 excluding VAT for the other. The specialist at that second clinic rarely implants fewer than 1,800 grafts.
  • Averages given by the clinics themselves. The amounts depend on the number of grafts. They range from €2,000 to €8,000 for one, from €3,500 to €8,500 for another, and from €4,000 to €10,000 for a third.

Above all, remember that the number of grafts changes everything: a “from” price does not tell you what 3,000 grafts cost. And the 21% VAT, which some clinics do not include in their displayed prices, adds roughly a fifth to the amount, as we shall see below.

And in Istanbul: how much for the same number of grafts?

At three Istanbul clinics, in October 2026 we recorded the cheapest package whose website states that it covers at least 3,000 grafts. These three packages range from €2,390 to €3,990.

One of the three clinics does not vary its price with the number of grafts. Another announces up to 4,000 grafts in each option. The third announces up to 4,500 grafts for its DHI. Its entry-level package, at €3,200, does not specify a number of grafts. The most expensive options among the three range from €5,790 to €8,000 and more. Hotel and transfers are included; the flight is extra.

Prices recorded in October 2026. Belgium: the two clinics that make it possible to calculate 3,000 grafts; €4,477 is a maximum. Istanbul: for each of the three clinics, the cheapest package whose website states that it covers 3,000 grafts.

For the same number of grafts, the gaps recorded therefore range from €487 (€4,477 minus €3,990) to €9,610 (€12,000 minus €2,390). These gaps are before the flight. As €4,477 is a maximum, the first gap may be smaller. Conversely, if the promotion has ended and the price goes back to €4,900 excluding VAT (€5,929 including VAT), that first gap rises to €1,939. The cheapest of the three packages recorded in Istanbul (€2,390) represents between roughly a half and a fifth of the two Belgian prices calculated. Compare the gap with the price of the flight on the date that suits you.

Part of the gap can be explained by the general level of consumer prices. In 2025, according to Eurostat, that level was 116.2 in Belgium and 59.6 in Turkey (European Union average = 100), or roughly half. This advantage is shrinking: the Turkish index was 41.1 in 2022. A low price, on its own, says nothing about the quality of a transplant.

At Klineva, our packages start below €3,000, with a 4★ hotel, transfers, an interpreter, PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and 18 months of follow-up included (our packages). The exact price depends on your case and is given after a free diagnosis from photos. For the details of the Turkish market, read the guide Hair transplant cost in Turkey.

Is a hair transplant reimbursed by your health insurance fund (mutuelle) or by INAMI?

As a general rule, no. INAMI (in French) points out that compulsory health care insurance does not reimburse services provided for cosmetic purposes. Several Belgian clinics treat a hair transplant for baldness as a cosmetic medicine procedure and charge 21% VAT on it.

Partenamut states that neither health and disability insurance nor hospitalisation insurance steps in for procedures carried out for cosmetic purposes. It adds that reconstructive surgery after an illness or an accident is treated separately. For its part, the Mutualité chrétienne says that its hospitalisation insurance covers all types of procedures, “except cosmetic care”.

Then there is Belgian VAT. Partenamut points out that it has been 21% for cosmetic procedures since 1 January 2016. The medical news outlet Medi-Sphere also points out that the exemption has been limited to procedures with a therapeutic purpose since 1 January 2022. This limit comes from the law of 11 July 2021 (in French). A price “excluding VAT” is therefore multiplied by 1.21: €3,700 becomes €4,477.

Key pointsNeither compulsory health insurance nor your health insurance fund (mutuelle) reimburses a hair transplant for cosmetic purposes: the price you compare is the price you pay, including VAT on the Belgian side. If your situation is medical (illness, accident), ask your health insurance fund for its opinion before you sign.

Belgium–Istanbul flight: airports, duration and time difference

Brussels Airport and Charleroi have direct flights to Istanbul. From Brussels Airport, Turkish Airlines flies to Istanbul Airport (IST) and AJet to Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW). From Charleroi, Pegasus serves Sabiha Gökçen. At Liège, the departures and arrivals page listed no flights on 4 October 2026. From October 2026 to March, it announced only flights to the Canary Islands. From the province of Liège, you therefore leave Belgium from Brussels Airport or Charleroi.

Allow about 3 h 30 min of flying time from Brussels Airport and 3 h 20 min from Charleroi, according to the durations given by FlightsFrom for Brussels and Charleroi. The time difference is small: Turkey is on UTC+3 all year round, Belgium on UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 in summer. The difference is therefore one hour in summer and two hours in winter. The clocks change on the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October.

Book your ticket once the date of the operation has been fixed with the clinic. For the return journey, the guide Travelling after a hair transplant explains flying, luggage and the first days at home.

Do Belgians need a visa to go to Turkey?

No. According to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, holders of an ordinary Belgian passport are exempt from a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. That is well beyond a stay of a few days in Istanbul.

Another page from the same ministry lists Belgium among the 21 countries whose citizens may enter with their national identity card. That page also lists Belgium among the countries admitted with a passport that expired less than five years ago. It carries the date 2022: check it before you leave. Also ask your airline what it accepts at boarding (identity card, expired passport) and what validity it requires.

Travel items laid flat: a leather pouch, a notebook, sunglasses, a padlock and an adapter

If you travel with a passport, as a general rule it must be valid for at least 60 days beyond the length of stay allowed without a visa (90 days). This official minimum applies even to a stay of a few days. The ministry recommends six months’ validity on arrival. We re-read these rules on 4 October 2026: check them again the week you leave. Klineva asks for an identity card or a passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival.

Having a hair transplant in Istanbul: language and communication

When you have surgery abroad, the question is not only the price but also communication: will I be understood before, during and after? At Klineva, an interpreter is present on site during the stay, which lasts 3 days (the details, step by step).

After you return to Belgium, follow-up lasts 18 months, done remotely.

Whichever clinic you are comparing, ask who will talk you through the consent form, the discharge instructions and the follow-up, and in which language: understanding every word matters.

How to compare a Belgian quote with a Turkish one?

Two quotes can only be compared if they cover the same things. Before you decide, compare these points, preferably in writing.

  • The number of grafts. How many are planned, and what happens if more are needed on the day of the operation? A “from” price may only apply to a few grafts. In one Belgian clinic’s price grid, a package of up to 500 grafts costs €2,100 and up to 1,000 grafts costs €3,520, including VAT.
  • VAT. Price excluding VAT or including VAT: in Belgium, the difference is 21%.
  • The consultation. Free at some Belgian clinics, it costs €30 to €130 at others.
  • What is included. The technique (manual FUE, Sapphire FUE, DHI), anaesthesia, medication, check-ups, PRP, the hotel, transfers, the interpreter. In the three Istanbul packages recorded, hotel and transfers are included; on the Belgian side, one price grid states that its price includes anaesthesia and aftercare following the operation. A PRP session on its own costs €250 to €395 at three Belgian centres recorded. At Klineva, PRP is included.
  • The price’s validity period. One Belgian price grid recorded is only valid until 31 October 2026, and a promotional price may have expired.
  • The second session and follow-up. Extensive baldness may need a second procedure: ask for its price, and for how many months follow-up is provided.
  • Payment. Deposit, payment date, refund in the event of cancellation.

A price far below the packages recorded in Istanbul also calls for asking what is not included. For Turkey, the guide How to choose a clinic in Turkey gives the essential pointers.

When a hair transplant in Belgium is still the right choice

Istanbul is not the right answer for everyone. A transplant in Belgium still makes sense in four situations.

  • You are aiming for a small area. Up to 500 grafts, the Belgian price grid mentioned above shows €2,100 including VAT (price valid until 31 October 2026). That is less than the cheapest Istanbul package recorded (€2,390, plus the flight). The Turkish advantage widens with the number of grafts.
  • You want to see your surgeon in person, several times. The consultation, check-ups and questions are all dealt with a few kilometres from home.
  • You cannot, or do not want to, take a flight or be away for three days.
  • You are still unsure about the very principle of a transplant. A medical opinion close to home helps you decide, and the guide When should you have a hair transplant? helps you work out the right time.

In these cases as in any other, the rule remains the same: a written quote, stating the number of grafts, the VAT and the name of the doctor who will operate.

What should you do now?

To decide without pressure, work through these steps in this order.

  1. Ask one or two Belgian clinics for a written quote for your number of grafts, including VAT, with the date until which the price is valid.
  2. Send your photos to Klineva for a free diagnosis – an adviser will get back to you within 24 hours with a price tailored to your case.
  3. Place the two quotes side by side and add the flight to the Istanbul side. Then choose the one where you know who will operate on you, what is included and how follow-up works.

The prices in this guide were recorded in October 2026: always ask for a dated quote.

In brief

  • Belgium. For 3,000 grafts, two prices can be calculated from rates recorded in October 2026: €4,477 at most and €12,000; always compare including VAT (21% in Belgium).
  • Istanbul. From €2,390 to €3,990 at three clinics, hotel and transfers included. The cheapest of the three packages represents between roughly a half and a fifth of the two Belgian prices calculated, for the same number of grafts.
  • PRP. A session on its own costs €250 to €395 at three Belgian centres recorded; it is included at Klineva.
  • Reimbursement. Compulsory health insurance (INAMI) and the hospitalisation insurance of the health insurance funds do not reimburse a procedure carried out for cosmetic purposes.
  • Travel. Direct flights from Brussels Airport and Charleroi, about 3 h 20 min to 3 h 30 min; one hour’s time difference in summer, two in winter.
  • Formalities. No visa for up to 90 days. The identity card is accepted according to a 2022 page from the Turkish ministry (confirm with your airline). Make sure you have an identity card or a passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival.
  • Comparing. Same number of grafts, including VAT, detailed contents, second session and follow-up, all in writing.

    Frequently asked questions

    01

Which is the cheapest clinic for a hair transplant in Belgium?

We do not rank clinics, because their prices can only be compared for the same number of grafts and including VAT. For 3,000 grafts, only two clinics make it possible to calculate a price: €4,477 at most for one, €12,000 for the other (recorded in October 2026). Six of the fourteen clinics we read display no up-to-date price. Ask each one for a written quote for your number of grafts, with its period of validity.

    02

Is a hair transplant reimbursed by a health insurance fund (mutuelle) in Belgium?

As a general rule, no. Compulsory health insurance and the hospitalisation insurance of the health insurance funds do not cover procedures carried out for cosmetic purposes, according to INAMI, Partenamut and the Mutualité chrétienne. Reconstructive surgery after an illness or an accident is treated separately. If your situation is medical, ask your health insurance fund before you pay.

    03

How long is the flight from Brussels to Istanbul?

According to FlightsFrom, the direct flight takes about 3 h 30 min from Brussels Airport, with Turkish Airlines (IST airport) or AJet (Sabiha Gökçen airport). From Charleroi, it takes about 3 h 20 min with Pegasus. The time difference with Turkey is one hour in summer and two hours in winter.

    04

Do Belgians need a passport to go to Turkey?

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists Belgium among the countries whose citizens may enter with their identity card. Its page is dated 2022, however: confirm this with your airline before you leave. For a passport, the official minimum is, as a general rule, 60 days’ validity beyond the 90 days of stay allowed without a visa. Klineva asks for an identity card or a passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival. No visa is required for up to 90 days.

    05

How many days do you need to stay in Istanbul for a hair transplant?

In the programme we offer, the stay lasts 3 days. Day one: welcome and pre-operative consultation. Day two: operation. Day three: first hair wash, check-up and explanation of the instructions at the clinic, before the return journey. Follow-up then continues for 18 months, remotely.

    06

Is a hair transplant riskier in Istanbul than in Brussels?

The country, on its own, says nothing about the quality of a transplant: the team that operates, hygiene and follow-up are what count, in Belgium as in Turkey. France Diplomatie (in French) advises finding out about the conditions of the operation and about the services included in the price: simply put these questions in writing before you book.
